Tripod (Bog Pod) question

I have been hunting with my Encores (several different calibers) for a few years now on some property I have in central Virginia.
Will be trying a new 45/70 Katahdin barrel this fall.

I'm a little older and have bad knees, which makes it hard for me to hunt from a tree stand.
For the last few years I've hunted from the ground and had good success. I always cut a "shooting stick" and use it in the blind.

I've been reading about "Bog Pods" and have seen them on the TV a lot lately.

Order me one.

Anyone use them......opinions?

I dont know about Bog pod but I made me a tri pod for a 5.00 investment. I found an old camera tri pod at a garage sale with adj. legs looks like from the fifties very sturdy and well made and will adj to any hight and to slope of ground very light made of tube aluminum.
I cut me a circle off a pvc 2inch heavy wall pipe cut it in half for a u shape drilled a hole through it to take the camers mounting bolt padded it with a piece of foam pipe insulation and was ready to go works great. it adj from 18 inches to 5 ft high. something to think about.

Can't tell you about the BogPod, but about 5 years ago I bought a Stoney Point. I will tell you I use this as both a cane (I am disabled) and a shooting stick. If you like how the BogPod functions and it feels comfortable, then I say buy it.

I plan on buying a BOG POD because it looks like the lightest and fastest to move around and set up, but I think the stoney point  is probably a little stronger and heavier.  I've see the V part of the BOG POD break a couple times on tv.  I was shocked they showed it because BOG POD was a sponser of the show.  They didn't point it out but if you watch closely you can see it.

Well, I can personally attest that the "V" on the Stoney Point would probably take being run over by a truck before it breaks. I use the "V" on a daily basis as my "walking stick" hand grip. The V is very comfortable to use. It actually fits in the palm of my hand well and distributes my weight across my hand well. I do have a callus on the bottom of my palm.....but hey....that happens.

The Bog Pog does look like it's faster to set up.....but I've been using the Stoney Point for....I think 5 years now. It's like a permanent part of me. I guess if they quit making Stoney Points, I'll have to change then!!!  ;D

I use two sets of shootin'/walkin' sticks....both are Stoney Point.  Most often I'm carryin' a Mono-Pod (single stick) with the "V" on it.  Mine came with a snazzy little walunt knob to screw on in place of the "V" for walkin'.  When I'm just out "woods walkin" I usually have an old Ruger Blackhawk on my hip.  If I should come uponst sometin' that needs shootin' I grip the knob with the palm of my left hand, rotate my wrist downward forming a little saddle for my right wrist and Blackhawk to rest in.  My small spotting scope and/or camera also fits on it in place of the knob or "V" as well.  A couple of years ago I added a bi-pod model to the equation.  When I REAL serious about shootin' something I take it and a rifle or Contender pistol.  It is more stable but also a little cumbersome as a walking stick(but not as bad as I thought it would be). I have not seen the Bog-Pod.

I just ordered a Bog Pod from Natchezss.com.  They are $69.99 there, so I guess we will see how they are.

Well, I received my new Bog Pod.  I really like it.  I shot my muzzleloader and 308 encore pistol off of it.  I like it better than the Stoney Points I saw in the store.

I've been using mine a little at the range just trying it out. Seems to work really well. I have used it as a tripod, bipod and monopod. Seems to work in most situations. The camera attachment is also very handy.
I do wish they would make a faster for the camera attachment so that it was secure enough on the base that you could carry it attached.
Over all I'm very happy with the Bog Pod. Can't wait for the season!
