New Ruger GP100 -6"
« on: March 15, 2009, 11:10:19 AM »
I've been wanting a GP100 for some time now and the wife gave me a present of $200 toward the purchase  for my birthday last month (wonderful woman!). The only complaint that I have is that it's hard for me to see the black front sight......ordered a HiViz from Ruger last week. Today was a very good day at the range for me.....I was using some reloads that I loaded night before last....125 gr hornady hp/xtp over 21 grains of h110.....taken from the hodgdon manual......I was shooting from a rest at 25 yds.....what do you think?

Congratulations!!! I think you picked a very nice sidearm. I have a 6", SS, GP100, and would never part with it. Now get yourself a SP101 and I'll bet you'll love it as much as your GP100. Nice shooting too.

Great gun, I have a 6 inch SS GP100 also. I had it drilled and installed a red-dot sight on it. It is a tack driver.

Nice to see and hear good things, Ruger have always been my fav's,  Got a batch of them and will get more.

How's the trigger on the GP-100, single and double?
I've been thinking about the same revolver but haven't put my hands on one.

Well, the trigger is by no means like a S&W. In fact, right out of the box you might find it rather stiff in both single and double action. But, Ruger double action revolvers are Jewels in the rough. They could stand a little trigger work and maybe some dehorning around the edges, but after a minimal amount of work, they are one rugged, dependable, handsome, sidearm.

A little smoothing and a lot of shooting has worked for me , I know it's a rough  job but somebody has to do it.

The sa pull on mine is heavy but its forgiving because the grip and angle are so good with the old style grips.

I have the GP-100 with 6" barrel and blue finish. It is a real nice shooter and will carry it during the next deer season. It will strickly be close range for deer, but I'm sure it will do the job with a good shot placement. I might change out the front sight, but haven't made up my mind on that yet.....

You call that good shooting?  You missed that quarter with all six shots!  :D  Just funnin' with you, that is good shooting.  I don't have a GP... yet.  But if I ever run across a good deal on one when I have the cash I sure wouldn't mind getting one.  It's a gun that will serve you, your kids, your grand kids and great grand kids well provided the government doesn't confiscate it first.

I ran a white paint pen up the front ramp, razor sharp now, quick aquisition & cheap as heck.
