i have a 270,30-30 xlr and a cva 45-70 to take care of my rifle needs. this is going to stay a pistol. really leaning to the 7-08.

I think I would go with the .308, or for something a little different maybe the 6.5 x 55.

I have both .308 and 7-08 in 15" factory stock barrels and, at least for my purposes, they are completely interchangable.  Right now I think the biggest factor between the two is ammo/brass availability.  .308 stuff is nowhere to be found...7-08 is at least considerably better.  BTW, I also have a .260Rem and it is my favorite. ;D ;D

Here's my 7mm/08; a sweet shooting gun with reasonable recoil by the way.

The barrel started out as a stainless steel 15 in. barrel with iron sights I got at a very reasonable price.  I had the barrel cut down just enough to remove the screw holes for the front sight and had an integral muzzle brake drilled into the barrel.  Then I had SSK Industries apply a black mil spec finish to the barrel.  The scope is a Leupold VX III 2.5-8X handgun scope in SSK Industries' T'SOB base/rings.
