::)  Leave it to Wisconsin to ban something before it gets invented.
Goodbye 2nd!

Wisconsin officials limit guns used for hunting
BARABOO (WKOW) -- Wisconsin wildlife officials have approved a rule that limits the types of guns hunters may use, after concerns were raised about new, untested technology.

Now, hunters can legally use firearms including air guns, handguns and guns fired from the shoulder. But advisors for the state Department of Natural Resources argued those definitions were too loose and could include things like electromagnetic weapons.

Wednesday, the DNR board unanimously approved a new rule that only allows hunters to use traditional gunpowder firearms or air rifles and pistols.

That really puts the kabosh on my hunting plans. I just put the finishing touches on my replica of a Nazi model, but found it to be rather heavy even for modern railways. But I figured that there are so many deer hanging around train tracks that I'd find a way to make it work.

Whoever came up with that "law" needs to be put on a rail.

Think they left the printing press running unattended, printing over 50 gazillion doe permits while they were too busy figuring out this new law?  Things were pretty slow around Radisson last November.

I can't imagine every using a railgun for hunting, but the DNR has no right telling us we can't.

Personally, I can't figure out why they would do such a thing.  None are commercially viable at this time.  The power requirements are so enormous as to make them impractical until someone finds a way to do cold-fusion in a bottle.  Besides, what exactly is wrong with changing the propulsion mechanism?  It's still the bullet doing the work.  How it gets up to speed should be meaningless.  All bullets at this time are propelled in one form or another by expanding gases.  So, what if we used electomagnetic forces to store the gas and then released it.  Sort of an electromagnetic compressed air rifle...

What the heck is "traditional" anyway?  I didn't read the article but... percussion caps weren't traditional at one point and neither was rifling.  Centerfire wasn't traditional for that matter neither was rimfire.  Bottleneck cases sure weren't traditional... Smokeless powder wasn't either.  Everything changes, why fight with it.  Not sure we should go with lasers for killing game but then again the end effect is the same as a .50 round ball and black powder.

Apparently they had dozens of hunters actually phone in to the help line and ask if they could use homemade railguns to shoot deer.   ::)
