Need help choosing light weight rifle for my 9 yr old.

First time poster here. I am an avid hunter/shooter and already have a rws/diana model 36 that I have had for about 15 years. The problem is these well made rifles are way to heavy for my son. He went deer hunting for the first time this year and got a nice 8 point whitetail with my 6.5 x 55 Swedish. He is wanting a pellet gun to shoot around the house, hunting birds,rats and occasional bunny. He has outgrown his daisy bb gun and wants something with alot more power. I tried taking off my scope on the rws but it is still too heavy for him. . I would like to stay with a single cock model if possible and like to keep the price under $150.00. . I have weighed a single shot 410 that he can shoot and it is about 4.5 lbs. If I keep the weight between 4.5 to 5.5 I think he will be able to handle it.I would also prefer to start him with iron sights and go to a scope much later.Is there anything that you guys can recommend?

 Nothing I know of other than a couple of really cheesy Chinese youth spring guns fit your weight/price range. It's hard to find a good one that's reasonably priced, small/light and easy to cock.

 You might consider a Co2 gun instead.

 This pistol, with the shoulder stock Crosman offers is similar to the setup I put together for my 10 year old Son. It comes with a steel breech with scope grooves, and has a pretty good adjustable rear sight. Very cool little gun. I believe you can buy a longer barrel for it directly from Crosman if you want.

 You could also get the base model of the above for cheaper, but it has a kind of crummy plastic breech and rear sight.

I have the crosman 2250xt co2 with the 80 gram cylinder and for 125.00 it is accurate and very fun to shoot and you are supposed to get 400 shots per tank good luck Howard

I know this is off toppic a little but.
Knowing all the trouble I got in with BB guns as they were not real guns i would say get a kids 22LR  and let him shoot either CB's or the Aguilla Colibre rounds for small game.  They are deadly on small game as well as quiet.  A used 22 is going to be cheaper and easier for him to use than a spring air rifle.

Don't know how it would do for taking bunnies, but Crosman has a break-barrel called the "Raven" http://www.crosman.com/airguns/rifles/break-barrel/CY6M77.  Only up to 600fps (as usual, velocity all depends on pellet weight) and PyramidAir offers them.  You could purchase it and a scope for the sum of your $$ amount.

The qb 78---- which is a copy of the old crosmen 160, is low priced and good enough for ranges out to 25 yards.   It is under a hundred bucks and has an adjustable trigger.  There are alos a whole lot of after market stuff that you can add on later. 

This is a very light rifle and is fun to shoot.
