« on: May 20, 2009, 06:10:36 AM »
Hi Everybody. I was wondering if anyone has any information about scope mounting for a 617. My concern is which scope base will work and where I can buy one. Also any recomemdations for a scope. My 617 is the ten shot with a 6 inch barrel.....Thanks.....Ray

I have a Leupold Dual Dovetail Base and Medium Rings on mine.  If it is a fairly new gun it will be drilled and tapped for the mount.  If I remember right you can see the hole for the base on the inside of the topstrap.  They can be had at anywhere that has Leupold stuff, I think I ordered mine from Graf's.  I am a big fan of the DD setup.  Scope on mine is a Luepold 2x.

I have a Weigand base for my Smiths. It is a Weaver type rail. It requires the removal of the rear sight and uses existing holes drilled and tapped by the factory. I have used a setup with this base and a cheap red dot sight to test different guns for accuracy. It is fun.

Tom C has it right. I have several Weigand bases on various Smiths  - all with red dots.
