Now that is a great idea CW.  Though it looks like the weather here in Mississippip might not cooporate.

But we always love smoke and fire pics!!!

As promised.  Preliminary pictures here.  Lance and I had a great time and met a number of good folks at the range (near Blacksburg).  (Will be gardening until dark, then cleaning mortars, THEN posting pix.)

3 guesses as to the MAKER of the brass firecracker cannon!   ;D

OK!
Here come the pictures.
It was indeed a fun time; involving several good guys we met on the range.  (Here's your chance guys to speak up!)

Does that big black DICTATOR mortar look familiar?

A lot of fun and (although no there are no pictures) good food and discussion afterwords.

All this (freedom) we owe in part to what our friends and forefathers' sacrificed for our freedoms.

Great pictures. Glad you enjoyed yourselves. The picture of " 21 amdmore smoke.JPG " of the dictator with the smoke curling around the muzzle would make a dandy calendar shot.

Such a Great Day!!! Where to begin? or How to Start?     Let's see, Thank You's are due to the American Soldiers who fought and died, and to Those who are still fighting, so that Tim and I could get together and enjoy our hobby of Shooting Black Powder Cannons and Mortars. Thanks to the Police who were out in full force today keeping the roads safe, the traffic was nice and easy to the range and back. Thanks to the new friends i made at the range, i really enjoyed talking with you all. America truly is Great!!!    Imagine this if you want, i know i will. Today was full of history, some friends got together and held an American flag, not to prove anything, but to Honor the American soldiers. Jamestown Settlers matchlock fuse was used to set the Union mortar off. Then off to a fine meal, a Buffalo burger, or American bison if you prefer. There was even horseradish to top it off. I even left a handful of George Washingtons for a tip. Hey, give me a break, i haven't wrote anything for a while. Anyway, Thanks again to everyone, you know who you are.

P.S. If the American Military ever gets in a bind and needs a hand, don't worry, My friends and i got your back.
PALADIN had a gun.....I have guns, mortars, and cannons!

Had a Grandfather on my Mother's side who fought in WWI, his Grandfather fought in the Civil War. His Great Grandfather fought in the Revolution. My Father was in WWII, fought in the Battle of Mindano, PI. My Uncle went to Canada and joined, was a crewman on a plane flying over Germany for England, before the U.S. got in the war. To all of them, and the many many others, who have answered the call to fight for the freedoms we enjoy today, A heartfelt Salute and a "from the bottom of my heart" Thank You! BoomLover

Our rifle club today had a double match; number one was for M1's (WWII, all M1's except for one Springfield, which was used in WWII), and number two was for Springfields and M1917's (WWI, with a few more modern service rifles on the line.)  Too few of us own Krags for a SpanAm match.

Hey Cat, it looks like you and Lance had yourselves a great day; we drove up to Wisconsin Fri. evening, so I didn't even have as much as a bottle rocket to fire a salute with on Sat., but we still had a good day. Viewing your pics went a long way in easing the pain caused by not having anything to make a loud respectful salute with, THANKS for posting them.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Cat, were you guys firing golf balls from that hand cannon? How much powder and what was the recoil like?

Boom, Victor -

It was indeed fun (all Lance's fault because it was his idea).

30 to 120 gr of FFG in the hand-held golf-ball calliber 'mortar'.   About 3" diameter of 4140.  Heavy.  Kicks at MOST about like a .38 Special.

Memorial day is one of the most somber days of the year for me - when I remember those friends that are forever 21; friends that helped me build my relationship with my Maker.  We all need to review from time to time our responsibilities to others.  Thanks for helping me celebrate life!   ;D  It was really great sharing the event with others we'd never met before too!

(And did you notice the cannon and the mortar made by our sponsors?)

Cat, I picked out the Irishman's Firecracker cannon and Dom's Mortar first thing! Monday will be the day for us, we will make our cannons and mortars speak, fire and smoke to help salute our Servicemen. BoomLover

Irishman's Firecracker cannon is one of my favorites, and it will always be used to start a shoot.
