New baby, 35 Rem
« on: May 14, 2009, 05:22:14 PM »
Newest addition to my Marlin family came in today after a 2 week wait from the order. ;D  336C35 to ease the life of the 1957 model 35 Rem.  Gonna try some warmer loads and didn't want to stress the old girl.  Trigger is heavy but breaks clean.  Will try to give her a test run this Sunday if I can.  DP

I have a 1954 model in the Marlin Rc .

I use the cast  RCBS 200 GC lead load over full case of  Varget and 180gr. Speer over43gr BLC 2  powder . The rifle site is the same for both loads , so I practice with the lead in the off season and shoot deer with the Speer load while hunting .

Your trigger should be tuned maybe with some new springs . Mine is close to three pounds.
Just as the 35 is - it kills deer dead .

Guys, I'm really old school.  Got drug kicking and screaming into the computer world :o, haven't got the knowledge on how to get pics from camera to computer :-[.  My 4 year old took the mouse away from me cause I wasn't doing it right. :P  Some day I'll get all the Marlins out and have one of the older kids take the picture and get it posted.  My Marlin family is growing, 1952-30-30, 1957-35 Rem, 1894C in 357, 38-55 CB, 444P and the new, never shot 336C35.  I have a standing order for the first 7mm-08 XS7 my "candy" store gets in.  By the way, does everyone else know that "reboot" doesn't involve the feet? ;D  They finally told me that.  DP

Re: New baby, 35 Rem, new range time
Spent 5 hr at the range today with some guests.  Took the new 35 Rem and a box of Rem 200gr factory loads and a box of Hornady Leverevolution.  This one seems to like the Rem factory better than the LE's.  My 1957 girl doesn't care which I feed her, she likes em both. ;)  My guests had never shot anything bigger that 357 mag in a rifle but both shot the 35 4 rounds each and would have shot more, but I only took 2 boxes of 35 rem with us.  I spent most of my time on the 35 and my new 7-30 Waters(Handi rifle) and watched my guests have a blast, pun intended.  DP

Sounds like a fun day held by all.

I usually load some lead ( the 200 CG RCBS mould) over a case full of varget , just for range work, on paper and also steel plates . This is an inexpensive way to shoot many rounds and not spend the ice cream money  for the kids. You will find over time the lead will also polish the inside of the bore over time making clean up a breese, and also your not wearing the rifling.(My girl is a made in 1954 RC with the ballard rifling)

I was thinking of a Handi rifle myself. They do not seem to cost a lot of money, and if the shoot with in an inch or so , who needs that extra shot ?When I was a kid I could fire two shots with a single shot 12 guage in the time some one shot three with a pump, so suppose practise could do the same. Anything you could share to watch out for? I am looking at a stainless 06.

You will catch on with computer skills over time . Do not be afriad to use it . Nice thing these days , you can usually ask any kid what to do or How to use it .

Hey DP,

You know, the .35 Remington really is a great round.  It does kill deer deader than a hammer and my Marlin is very accurate and easy to shoot.  You can soup it up quite a bit but you can't make a 300 yd. cartridge out of it.  My .35  is probably one of the most accurate Marlins I own.  I have few more than you but not many more!  Good luck.

Yep, I like the 35 Rem.  The old girl took a big dry Mule deer doe this last year, using the Hornady LE factory ammo.  She just tipped over and never moved.  Knocked a chunk of hair off the other side of her the size of a golf ball.  Got plenty of long range rifles and have a BLR in 358 Win on lay-away the kids are gonna bring out for Fathers Day for a little more reach.  I have 3 of the 357 mag Handi's that are getting reamed to 357 Max this weekend, may take one of those on out to the 35 Rem also, it's a very effective cartridge.  DP

I Love my 35 Rem Marlin. It is a pleasure to shoot. Just bought a 44 mag 1894 but its a toss up on which I like best.
