Encore .45 Colt Rifle Barrel???
« on: May 31, 2009, 11:58:49 PM »
New to the Forum..
Will  the T/C Custom shop make a barrel for a .45 Colt Rifle? I am not looking for a .454 or a .460 SW.
Thanks, .375 Hawk

I'm quite sure they will.  Give them a call.  If they won't, there are a number of custom barrel makers that will.

You might be happier with the .454 chamber.  The chamber specs on the .45LC are 136 years old and are oversized to accomodate black powder fouling.  I have two from T/C, one is pretty tight, the other way loose.  The .454 chamber is held to tighter specs and usually has a better throat.  OTOH a Bullberry chamber I have is nice and tight and shoots very well - 1.5 to 2 moa for 5 shots at 100 yards from a 10" tube with 4x scope.

Thanks Lone Star and Grumulkin, Out of all the .45 Colt rifles I have or had,  the one with the tighest chamber is a H&R Classic Carbine. :o ;D The Marlin 1884 .45 Colt had a sloppy chamber.  The Puma 1892 .45 Colt ejected brass that looked like a banana. >:(  And the Browning 1885 shot 6"-8" groups at 50 yds. no matter what you fed it. >:(
I think a custom barrel from Bullberry or OTT with a proper chamber is the way to go.
