Load 357 Mag for a H&R single shot
« on: June 03, 2009, 09:21:14 AM »
Anybody have any pet loads worked up for an H&R 357 Mag Handi-Rifle?  All the handloads I have have tried are for a revolver.   I am assuming this rifle will handle a hotter load than a wheel gun.  Would prefer to shoot cast bullets to save $$$.  I live in a shotgun only Deer state so this is basically a can plinker.

Why be difficult, when with a little extra effort you can be impossible?

You can use the same ones in the Handi.  Using full power loads of H110, W296 or LilGun  will give you alot more speed out of the rifle barrel.  I have been using 158gr jacketed or 160gr cast GC over 19.0gr LilGun.  That is 1.0gr over Hodgdon max, but I got the load out of an artical written by Brian Pierce in the Handloader magazine.  I have used it for a couple of years in rifles and my 2 Ruger revolvers with NO problems.  I have 3 of the Handi's in 357 and 2 lever guns in the same chambering.  The load shoots great and hits hard.  DP

the only bullets i have are cast 158gr RN PB....i'm shooting 14.5 grs of 296,WSP primers(winchester data),1550 fps from a revolver. Don't have a chrono but it must be going 1800 at least from a 22" barrel...no leading....pretty decent load
