Civil War Tents
« on: December 05, 2009, 03:53:06 AM »
Kids gave me a civil war history book for Christmas. Lots of pictures. In several pictures I see a circular tent that looks like a teepe. The pic quality is poor so I can't see if there are teepe poles sticking out of the top, but I can see that from the way the canvas hangs that the walls are supported from several directions. I would think that teepe poles would be pretty impractical on military campaigns, so I surmise that they were supported with a single central pole. There are enough pictures of them that it is pretty obvious that they were govt. issue. What am I looking at?

Thanks Stan.  I have never asked a question on this forum but what I didn't get a good answer. The sibley looks like it would be a pretty good tent. I see pictures of both versions, one where the cone extends all the way to the ground and also where there is a vertical wall around the bottom.
