6mm 204
« on: January 18, 2009, 04:36:12 PM »
Has anyone ever tried this ?? would seem that it would be similar to a 7mm tcu only in .243.
Do you think this would work. I think it has potential as a contender round.

I'd call it already done since the 204 case has about the same case capacity as its parent case, the 222 Rem Mag.   It's called the 6X47 (made from the 222 Rem mag) and has been around for many years.   I recently sold the last one I had.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

go figure..
After reading some more the 6x47 was built on a 222 rem mag case.the 204 is a 20 cal improved version.
so a 6mm 204 would be a 6x47 improved.The reason i wanted to do this was because 204 cases
are readily available 222 rem mag are a tad harder to come by.
Do you think this round would work in a contender frame??
I have no idea what pressures this would build.
I found a guy on another forum who built one..I am waiting to be approved over there and i
will ask him some questions.

The 6X47 I recently sold was a custom Contender carbine barrel.

6mm tcu would be quite the same ballistic wise. Probably easier to neck up from .22 to .24 than .20 to.24

6mm T/CU and the 6X45 are very similar, and both would have less powder capacity than the 6X47.

I built a 6mm-204 this past year but do to work and health problems have not had a chance to wring it out.  Accuracy has been very good with 55gr BK's and Speer 60gr HP's.

The major difference between the 6mm/.204 and 6x47 is a matter of shoulder angle.  Any difference in capacity can be measured in tenths of a grain.

The BR guys years ago redid the 222mag case mover the shoulders forward, degree on shoulders varied 35 dergee up to 45 degree was called 222x35/222x45 afew even neck the case up to 6mm.    I've got a 40x in 6x47 and if your looking for loading data that's easy start with loading data for the 6x47 you will increase max loads maybe 1 to 2grs since the 204 case after it's necked up should increase capacity by that much.  The old Rem 6x47 40x had 1/12 twist barrel.  well good luck

55gr Blitzking AA-2230 3625fps

60gr HP Varminter AA-2230 3525fps

Both loads are slightly compressed and show no signs of exess preasure in my rifle, COL is 2.41, 24" ER Shaw 6x47 barrel rechamberred
