How to extend a Tamer stock 2 inches?
« on: June 01, 2009, 05:59:07 AM »
Before I toss it into the back of the closet, any thoughts?

I like that it is light, strong and can hold cartridges. Hate the length. I slipped a small Limbsaver over it. Even the small is too big (flops around and still not long enough) and Tamer's curved butt leaves a gap. Could carve a piece of plywood into the right shape, bolt it on and throw the Limbsaver over that, Too much work. Have some 1"x1" neoprene inbound. Gonna drill 3 holes in the Tamer and tiewrap the neoprene (with something, maybe bubblewrap to flatten the curved butt) on, and finish off with the Limbsaver. If it stays on, recoil should not be a problem.

Easiest way is to put a Survivor or an Ultra Varmint stock on it. The Tamer is supposed to be that short.Kurt

Sounds like you have the right idea to me if you needed the longer length of pull.

I don't really like the Survivor or Varmint - I'm working on a cartridge carrier for 444 & 30-06 to fit in the half shell stock so I can actually get to the rounds instead of taking the buttplate off (Survivor & Varmint).

Just take the time to make something to fit it like you want it.  My other handi has the little elastic shell holder thingy - junk.  I've killed more deer left handed than I have right handed - no way I can live with a cheek ripper on the side of my stock (much less a thumbhole stock).

I have a limbsaver on mine & it doesn't move around at all - no idea what size it is.  If I didn't like it, I'd use a rasp file to smooth out the butt ridges, and make some kind of filler plate & then bolt it between a thick recoil pad and the smoothed out buttplate.  I've got some soft downloaded cast bullet loads that even some of the smaller kids can shoot, now I can pull off the limbsaver & they have length of pull that's pretty close.

Wreckhog - have you had a chance to try the Survivor stock before? It may just be up your ally. Storage and very light, plus easy to get too. Give one a try,it may just be your ticket.
