Old 94 Valu
« on: April 04, 2009, 09:45:37 AM »
I know this question has probably been asked here a million times, but this is my first time on this forum.
So here goes  ;D

My friend's son just got his hands on a 1921 Model 94.  It's all nickel, barrel too.  19 1/4" barrel.  It's in really good shape.  He got it for $100.  Yes, I know that's a good deal, but he wanted me to see if anyone I knew had an idea of what it might be worth.  Thanks guys.

The just of it is anywhere from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand!
It all depends on just what the grade percentage or true overall condition really is.

Quote
It's in really good shape.

That can be anywhere from 40% to as much as 95% to the untrained eye.
Also is there any special features about the gun.
There again, the untrained eye would not know this and it can and will make a huge difference.
The average model 94 in that age perion most likely would sell aroung $250.00 to $600.00, depending on condition.
Again, without seeing the gun and knowing for sure just what it is and what it left the factory as no one here can tell you for sure.

To get a better idea, take it to a reputable gun shop who trully knows model 94s.

Condition is everything when evaluating collector guns.  I hear people saying they have a nickeled gun but when I see it I find the blue is just worn off leaving it shiney.  This is especially true of old Winchesters.

My friend had it appraised at Cabella's over the weekend.  They valued it at around $1100.  It's missing the saddle ring.  They said if that is replaced it would jack the value up a couple more hundred.

Thanks for all the input.

That is a pretty goog price.
It either has something we don't know about or is in exceptional condition.
I just re-read you OP and see that it says ALL NICKLE!
If original then that could be the difference.
To really get an honest value, go back to Cabella's and ask them how much they would give for it.
Then you will see how serious they were with their appraisal!
If they offer say $800.00 then they were fair.
If they offer much less or say they just can't use it then they were just jerking you around.

Good idea, Long.  I will mention that to my friend.  They're kind of like used car dealers that way, aren't they. :-[
