I read this in my paper this morning and it made me wonder................

Gun owner gets prison

West suburban business-
man Tad Christensen, 44, was
sentenced to five years in
prison Friday for possessing
37 rifles and shotguns in his
Burr Ridge house without a
valid fireman owner's identifi-
cation card.

Pretty standard right?
But also............

He also was sentenced to
eight years in prison for forging
signatures on insurance checks
worth more than $275,000. The
sentences will run concurrently.

Does it strike anyone else funny that the headline was not "Man sentenced to 8 years for forging over a 1/4 million dollars in bad checks? It doesn't say whether or not they were bought illegally. I'm thinking legally or they would have b=een all over it. He probably let his foid card lapse.

  Not really funny, but pitiful! Any semblance of honest, professional journalism with most of the media in the US, died in 2008..

I did mean funny as in strange not humorous. I just found the way they spun this article around very interesting.

We people in the republik of Illinois must obtain an identification card to purchase a firearm. The state police run a background check on you and issue the card. Then when you purchase a firearm, you have to wait while they run another background check on you. You must have one of these cards to purchase firearms or ammunition.

Whilst visiting a Gander Mountain in IL, I was interested in handling a Taurus Judge.  The fellow behind the counter told me under IL law I couldn't even pick up a weapon in IL without a FOID.  Fortunately mine hadn't expired yet so I was able to examine the weapon.
Another one of the many reasons why I'm glad I live in Arkansas.

I am 99% sure that one can keep firearms within the home on an expired FOID card but you cannot purchase ammo or legally shoot without one. (will check)

If you do not live in IL but have a ccw, you do have a FOID card. Very same outfit (the old BAFT) and the cards are identical but our's are issued by the ISP. The foid dept is currently booming in both IL & flordia.

   Same here in People's Republik of NY, can't touch a handgun w/o first showing your CCW...been that way for a long time
