Howdy folks, new guy here from NH...not far from Fox Ridge and T/C.....had a TC a long time ago...just picked up a tc in super 14 45/410......love squirrel hunting and plan on using it for that alot.....very informative forum.

p.s. got this beauty at the kittery trading post in maine..they listed it at 95% condition...blueing n wood r nearly perfect looks like it was unused....lucky me i have been looking for one for awhile...i also hammer the squirrels with a super comanche 410 single shot.

Nasty, got one just like it. I found that winchester 3" w/#8 shot did the best out to 25-30 yds.. You'll love it.  Pat

Thanks fellas!...wow some site here...really enjoying it...so my first question...I tried to get the choke out to lube the threads....that dang thing would not budge with some considerable torque exerted....i didnt want to risk breaking something and I only plan on using it for the 410....so do you see any problem in just saying the heck with it and leaving the choke in permanently?

I've had that problem with shotguns before. What I do is take it out and shoot it a few times to warm it up and jar it a bit and then take it out....it works for me!!!! And welcome aboard!! This is a GREAT site, with lots of imformation!!!

You might also want to put some penetrating oil on there and let it seep into the threads. That helps some times.

      Don't know if anyone else thought of this, or even if it's a good idea. I have taken my choke out by sticking a large screwdriver through the hole in the choke tube wrench.  When you put it back in, you find out why it's so tight, that's where the rifling lines up with it, or approximately so.

Let the end of the barrel soak in PB Blaster overnight and then run hot water over the outside of the barrel to expand it just enough to remove choke tube .
Before you put it back in just touch it with a little never seize working the choke tube in and out a few times and you will never have the problem again .

Ill give it a whirl I didnt want to force it and risk breaking the splines in the tube then having it stuck in the barrel....I am very meticulous about keeping my shotgun tubes lubed so as to avoid this problem and also my muzzle loader breech plugs....on a brighter note I did pattern the gun today WOW!....10 yards 2 many pellets to count in a squirrel target and at 20 yards multiple hits in the kill zone....used 7 1/2, 3 inch remington 410 shells....the trigger is perfect and it seems to shoot exactly dead to point of aim..i like the shallow rear sight and the bead front sight...they align quick and have a very small profile and dont block out the target at all....im very impressed and very happy!...ill post pix of the targets...no doubt at all it will drop squirrels..rabbit..crow, etc.

This is the first one about gray squirrel size....took 21 hits at 20 yards...definite kill,



This is the second shot at 10 yards.....just peppered thickly....would ruin any eating im thinking...if you look close I think I killed a spider on the target lmao,

Glad you're having fun with it.  I use mine to shoot snakes on the shooting range (since they don't allow hunting, somebody has to do that). We have rattlesnakes galore in Texas.  The 410 barrel is great.  Now, wait until you figure out that a 10" barrel in 22lr can shoot 40 grain roundnose to 100 meters. Mine's scoped for hunter's pistol.  ;D

Welcome from a fellow NH resident. I recently got my first Contender in 45/.410 also. Mine is the 10" barrel with iron sights. I couldn't get much accuracy with .45 Colts but it works very well as a .410 so I'm happy with having it for that. I picked up a .357 Magnum barrel in Kittery that I'll be using for short range deer hunting. The .357 is very accurate and lots of fun to shoot also.

Yes, I was very impressed with the pattern too especially considering it's a handgun. I'm going to use mine for small game and maybe the occasional partridge while I'm out bow hunting for deer. That's a nice looking hunting rig you got there!

Welcome.  I also have a 14" .45Colt/.410 barrel.  Makes for a real fun gun as you have found out.  I picked up some Mag Tech brass cases and handload for it with Lil' Gun and 7.5 shot.  Patterns pretty nicely out to 25 yards or so.

I love the 410 round and handgun hunting so it is a perfect fit for me...my super comanche throws a good pattern also....it has 2 screw on chokes...as far as workmanship and trigger and such...no comparison to the contender...but i have bagged alot of game with it still....i think the comanche is going to be pretty idle this year  ;)

Nasty, if you can find(or make) some very fine copper powder, mix it with motor oil to make a thick paste. Best never sieze I've ever seen. Used it on my outboard prop in Fla. and after 15 yrs. it slid right off. All of my chokes get it. But watch out- it's like gooy gold graphite.  Pat
