I do not have a 357 max, but I load 357 mag very heavy out of both levers and Handis.My favorite bullet is the Cast Performance 187gr fngc.It gives great accuracy and penetrates deep.You can but them on line and there are many makers of the same style(LBT) bullet.  I push these very hard and have not gotten any leading,at all.HTH    Doug

+1 on the LBTs, very little leading and I am pushing mine at 2000fps really thumps deer I get mine from midway usally. 8)

I've shot 200gr Beartooth WFNGC at close to 2200fps in my 35 Rem Handi which is a rechambered 357MaX and the 240gr Mt Baldy WLNGC at 2000fps, no  problems with either.  ;)
