I heard this in an interview with someone who was commenting about how so many people are out of touch with mainstream religion in England today.
The story she told was: she was at a department store in London and someone was at the jewelry counter shopping for a rosary. The customer asked the sales girl if he could see one of the rosaries more closely and the girl said: Do you want it with a little man on it, or plain?
