Stubborn horn
« on: July 17, 2009, 07:05:48 AM »
Anyone know a good trick for getting the bone out of an otherwise good horn? I've tried drying it. Will freezing help? Rehydrating??? I hate to get too "creative", its a nice horn except for the bone.

I soaked mine in water for 3 or 4 days and it fell out when dry.  That was a loooong time ago and a smallish horn.

Boil it. Outside! Screw a lag bolt into the soft plug clamp the bolt in a good vise and pull while wearing gloves..

I just allowed mine to dry out and than cut the end off that had curled a little and it fell right out. Of course it sat outside through the winter and spring before I finally got around to working on it.
