setting up for reloading encore
« on: September 20, 2003, 10:59:29 AM »
I am an experienced reloader and just getting involved with centerfire encores. Does anyone have any helpful tips such as how to adjusting the dies for best preformance. Other helpful tips would include what did your  barrel prefer for seating depth from ogave to rifling how far away. I will be loading 22/250 and 300 win mag. If you have any prefer loads let me know.

Thanks to all

While most "generic" reloading books would say to measure your chamber for OAL and subtract .015 to .030, I have found that for my Encore barrels, it is better to subtract .030 to .050.  Other than that I reload for the Encore just like any of my other rifles.

I have been reloading for the encore/contender for only 1 1/2 years but have been reloading for other guns for  15 years . From what I have seen It seems to me that if you neck size only ,the shoulder will move forward enough to cause problems with the action closeing properly and ignition trouble  ( 0 headspace ? ) , shots stringing has also been noted . With that said I have recently started bumping the shoulder back .002 on resizing.
There are plenty of people around that may have more info than my limited experiance can provide.

It could depend upon the barrel, because I only neck size and have had excellent results.
