Value info needed! HELP!!!
« on: June 17, 2009, 11:49:12 AM »
Okay....as most of you know, I was looking at a NEF muzzleloader.

Today, I think I hit the motherload.

I found a NEF with synthetic stock, although that I am not crazy about that type, with A LOT of other barrels.  So, I come here to the all knowing members to help me set a value.

-NEF receiver that looks brand new, synthetic stock.
-Extra thumbhole type synthetic stock
-muzzle loader barrel
-.223 rem barrel
-.243 win barrel
-30-06 barrel
-12 gauge barrel
-3 scopes
-all manuals and information

They had it priced for $599....sound like a good deal?

HELP!!!!!  Let me know what you think.  I do not know the age of it, but it looked pristine.

Sounds reasonable to me, specially if it's a late model SB2 frame, I can see a 357mag, 30-30 and 45-70 being added to that list even if it's an older pre '99 frame, check the serial number prefix with the build year list in the FAQs.  ;)

How do you know if it is a SB2 frame?

Even if it is a SB1, I'd buy the lot, get a SB2 off the classifieds, and still be way ahead of the game.

Okay Tim,

I have been meaning to ask for a long time: what is the difference between the pre-99 SB2 and the post-99 SB2?  I had a .30-06 handirifle I bought new in '94, and then got extra barrels for it from NEF.  It now appears like I couldn't get any new barrels from the factory for it except for shotgun, .357, .30-30 or .45-70.  How come, if it was strong enough for the '06 when it was first sold?

That's in the FAQs, see High Pressure Chamberings on older SB2 frames on the build year info page, there may be a change to that, one member recently was told that '96-'99 frames can't be fitted with any rifle barrels, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

Right, but mine was a '94, so did not fall into the '96 - '99 time frame.  However, corporate being what it is, they probably figure that they can get us to buy a whole new rifle rather than just a new barrel!

Thanks Tim.
