Serial Killer ???
« on: June 17, 2009, 04:24:07 PM »
Anyone read or hear about the guy in Florida that is facing 158 years for killing cats?  The people are calling him a SERIAL KILLER!  I don't know what you guys think but it sounds like madness to me.  Hell, I would pay the guy to take out a few around my place.

This is just crazy...

As much as I agree with "harvesting" undesirable animals on my property, this kid sounds a little bit out there.
Of course, he's not a serial killer, of course 158 years is ridiculous, but he is still a bit messed up.  This guy went beyond the elimination of feral cats and other pests that we all have no problem with, even encourage ;)

This story shows that there's enough people out there that equate animal life to human life and it honestly makes me sick..and sad.

He would have got less time if it would have been people.  Do not get me wrong I care for my pets and want some one punished if they harm them but I see on other forums where people say some one should be killed for killing a dog or cat.  IMO there is no comparison between an animal and human.  Give him a little time locked up and may be a fine and let it go.

From what little I read, he was torturing and/or mutalating them. Truly a sick mind, and if he was left at large would likely eventually tire of that activity and progress to humans ( children ).
Destroying, humanely, feral animals is ok in my book, a necessary activity to keep nature in balance. This guy seems to be unbalanced, to a major extent. Anyone who condons this activity, ask yourself, would you want him living next to you and your family?

Feral cats have no place in North American ecology.  They are an invasive African species.  I have taken out a number that have shown up around my place and attacked my own cats.  We have five right now and they have a habit of living for fifteen years or more, while in the wild, a cat lives maybe three to five years.

This guy, in addition to what Gatcat already said, was leaving the remains in public sight and often in the yards of the owners.  This then was an attack on the owner, by proxy.  Think about the scene in the Godfather where the man wakes up and finds his horse's severed head in  bed with him.  The catkiller is far beyond even cat haters.  He is showing the signs of serial killers.   There is nothing heroic about this man, only scary.  I am sorry that he did not get caught by one of the pet owners, as Florida has some sensible, commonsense gun laws.

Unlike a lot of guys, I love cats.  Had quite a few, along with my dogs.

But the love stops when a cat is in my yard, and its not my cat.  Feral cats are a nuisance predator, no worse than coyotes and should be dealt with accordingly.

Subsonic rimfire, do the voodoo you do.

As far as feline domesticus, I know they are a "free spirit" type of animal, so if people love them that much, they better live way out in the country, or keep them inside.

Now, torturing and whatnot, that's going too far.  Unless they are Al Qaeda cats, in which case, I guess they can be waterboarded.

This kid needed supervision.  Now I suppose he'll get it.

I actually sort of LIKE cats...  in the house only.  I absolutely cannot stand to have housecats running wild in the neighborhood or around the farm.  The ONLY exception I make is for one barn cat.  My MiL still doesn't know what happened to 3 of her adopted strays...  I don't like cats outside, they kill for fun.  You can feed them all day long and they will still go hunting every night.  Your baby rabbits, quail, and everything else will get killed.  It's not like they are selective and only go after mice and rats.  Here in Germany if you see a cat more than 200 meters from a house, as a hunter you are expected to kill it.  It's not part of the ecosystem and should be removed.  Even a .22 short will make fairly short work of a housecat with a good headshot.  Strangely enough they are tough little buggers.  I've center punched one with a .45 acp at 5 yards and had to trail the blood for another shot.  I thought it would just drop from the .45 but it ran probably 35 yards to get under a building on our lease.  Luckily the building was on cement blocks...  easy shot and easy recovery.  Funny though... never had one walk away from a .30-'06...

Wareagle, what do you expect from Florida? I don't understand how they elect conservatives in politics and have local laws protecting all the imported wildlife pests they have. Monkeys, the largest constrictor snakes, huge lizards, peacocks, chickens and numerous other small critters cause harm to indeginous species are protected from private citizen control and only "qualified" people can control these pests. Alligators eating people is a real problem in Florida, go figure.
