I bought the .380 version of that from one of my workers a few years back to keep her from plugging her worthless husband.  While I have to say that it has never failed to fire, it is the crudest gun I have ever owned.  It hurts to shoot because of all the raw edges that pinch and scrape your hand.  The chrome is peeling and has sharp edges as well.  And you can see it on Cops all the time when they take down a lowlife and pull a gun out of the door pocket on the car.

I keep mine wrapped in a ski mask in case I need a second career holding up 7-11s.

Heheh... I just can't resist and have to post the first thing that came into my head in answer to your question...

You can probably find one in a box of Cracker Jacks.

All three replies SB a hint as to the quality of these belly guns.   If you have to go that cheap and do buy one, just don't rely on it too much or expect much.

I have never seen one in person but, I remember it getting a good review in gun test Mag.   And don't let the others give you a hard time, I've pulled glocks, HK's, Colts and other great guns off of scum bags along with a pile of the junk guns. Heart breaking putting a beautiful 1911 into evidence to later be destroyed! If you get one I'd be interrested in the review, good shooting!

Criminals use whatever they can get their hands on. Street punks have more cash to spend than you and I do. I don't think I remember a bad review on anything in a gun mag. Some of these cheaply built guns work ok, they're hit or miss. I was given a Jennings 22 many years ago that worked like a charm. Used it as a tackle box gun for years till I traded it even up for a Ruger .22 pistol. :o  If one of the Phoenix pistols were all I could afford, I'd take a chance on one, otherwise I'd look elsewhere.

I've read several good reviews on these guns and thought I might enjoy carrying one while fishing and not get to worried as would if carrying my ruger mark 2 or single six.  Might take the plunge and get one.

Bought a used one on gunbroker.  They have many listed new and used. For a 3" barrel it shoots real well.  The hammer block safety is missing a spring and manufacturer said to send it in to be fixed under warranty.  I also purchased 5" additional barrel, but not arrived yet. It's interesting that people comment on guns that they have never handled because of the price.  Do you all drive Cadilac escallades, also?

I don't drive Escalades, but I don't drive Yugos either.

Cheap guns are at best disapointing, and at worst dangerous.  I spent a lot of years trying to get good service out of crappy guns, scopes, tools, cars, you name it.  Now I wait until I can get a quality product, and often buy used.

Depending on what you plan to use it for, count on it letting you down.  If it is busting coke cans there is little harm, just frustration.  If you think it will keep you safe you are wrong on several fronts: no rimfire can really do that and even if it could cheap guns fail when you need them the most.  If it is in a combat situation then think about how much you saved.

I doubt many (if any) Escallade owners have a Phoenix HP-22 stashed as backup in the console.   ;D

Who says I have never handled the Phoenix 22's?    I have, and as I said before, IMO they are cheap junk.   Cheap as in quality of manufacture, cheap as in price - both suggesting unreliability and a short service life.   Why I have never owned one.   Like it or not, long experience handling and using many different firearms gives a person a pretty good idea and comparison of what is junk and what isn't even just from a looksee and handling.

When I was young and foolish I thought I really needed to have a couple of these cheap little semi auto belly pistols - why I'll still don't know (I already had a full size Colt Woodsman and a couple of High Standards).   I guess because I was young and foolish.   Got my first of them in the early to mid 60's... bought a couple of Jennings 22LR's and an Astra Cub 22 short.   The Jennings way back then were much better made than they were later on, but were still barely reliable and very near just junk.   The Astra was a great little pistol that never missed a beat, was very reliable and I wish I still had it.   Anyway, when I handled the Phoenix pistols they reminded me of the Jennings, and as being about the same low quality.

My belly pistol for the last dozen plus years has been a Beretta M-21.   Not expensive, but very reliable and surprizingly accurate.   Why did I buy it?   Don't have a clue other than because I was now old and foolish I guess (got remembering that old Astra Cub, couldn't find a clean one so bought the Bobcat instead).   Have had no real use for it since the day I bought it.

One thing is you can get a good used Ruger or Browning for50-60 bucks more. If you really want one go for it. I have a couple MRI Mountain Eagles that I love and were " cheap". It's your money to do with as you please.

I have owned one for years--always shoots good, and has only jammed once--my fault for not cleaning it. The 5 inch barrel works real well too, very accurate--almost as accurate as my browing buck mark--I carry it back packing in the NC mountains for the reason that it may very well get dunked in the river.

i've had one for nearly 4 years, put some where near 2000 rounds thru it. not one problem so far, just remember don't go above cci mini mags. had a friend to get one his shot great till he tried velociter, cracked the frame. he got a new gun from the company, it took about 3 weeks. i think if you want one to pack in your tackle box, or to plink with there ok. just don't exspect to fire thousands of rounds in a short time, don't think the gun will hold up.

I have one with the range kit, all I can say is with the 5" barrel on it , it is great, very good accuracy and flawless operation if cleaned occasionally.. very good buy for the dollar IMO. I plan on hanging on to mine, also it's much easier to carry on the farm here than my single six, or my M&P, much faster reloading than my Frontier Scout. used to take me 4-5 shots to hit snakes with my 929 H&r, most always git em with one shot with the Phoenix or frontier Scout. Hit a rabbit in my garden the other day in the eyeball with the hp22 (5"barrel) from about 5 yds.
Thing enough of it that I'm considering getting one in .25acp to have sort of a reloadable "22". How may shots from a pd. of powder for the .25?
