I have heard mixed reports on the 308 in a Handi, though many are good. I personally would lean towards the Survivor model for the advantage with the BB. Plus you can always swap stocks to get the feel you want.
OT- 125 or 250 you kick'n around? I haven't sported in a couple years, that was on the break of the 4 stroke "Thumpers" taking off. Still love the 2 stroke's though ;D

I have the survivor, and I love it, very very accurate, love core lokt bullets.

I did swap out the stocks, I went to the pallet wood then to a thumbhole laminate, I think that youll really like it.

i don't know you mitchell but i just picked up a 308 ultra comp barrel and will start load development soon. I am very interested in hearing about your 308 loads that are working well in the handi gun.....Mike
Have you had any luck with 125 gr jacketed bullets?

I had the .308 survivor and it would hold just over 1moa w/ black hills match 165's.  My beef w/ the survivor is that i'm 6'5 and the lop was only 13" I think.

Zoner is that a factory Ultra Comp or is it the one that Hofs1 had done? I know his was very accurate but just don't think we've seen a factory one yet but I got to ask as you never know sometimes what escapes the factory. Kurt

Mike and Kurt, it's an aftermarket braked 308 standard barrel, not an Ultracomp, it's the one I bought from LONGTOM.

I recently picked up a 308 with a comp.  It was produced in 2008 at Gardner.  Not sure if it is factory, but whoever put on the brake did a good job on the bluing.  Shoots really good, too.  Had a few areas on the lam stock where the finish was worn (bug spray on the hands?) so I got it for a steal, but stripped it down and refinished it last weekend and now it looks new!

mine is so clean and marked 308 Ultra i guess i assumed it was an ultra comp...but after hearing from Tim i guess it's a 308 Ultra Hunter with a very well done aftermarket compensator...doesn't matter to me,i'm happy....looks pretty cool wearing the camo lam furniture and a Leupold vari-xII 2x7.I want a 6" 250 yd point blank range and am sure i'll get there with it.....

The pic I posted in your WTB ad shows two Ultracomp barrels for comparison, a 270 and 30-06, your barrel is in the middle.  ;)

Recoil can be stiff but you can fix that with a slip on Limb Saver recoil pad.

I mounted up a 30-06 to the Survivor stock set(never mounted up the 308 :P) , and didn't feel recoil was too bad. Then again opinions on recoil can vary alot. Diddo on the LimbSaver.

If your just shooting the survivor stock a few times then recoil isn't a factor.  I shot a couple boxes of .308's through mine in one sitting and my shoulder was a bit tender the next couple days.  But to each his own.

I added a limbsaver slip on to mine to add to the LOP but that prohibits you from getting to the storage area quickly.  I though about trying to mount a regular/modified grind to fit pad to mine but never got around to it.
