IJ Champion with US ord flaming bomb
« on: June 29, 2009, 04:22:26 PM »
I have a Champion that is about 98%. Looks almost new. On the left side of the reciever it has a "U.S." stamp and a flaming bomb stamp. My best guess is that is was a Welfare and Rec. club gun at some military command. Does that sound reasonably plausable? If anyone knows about this situation I would be glad to hear about it. Would there be any premuin upon its value?  Right now it lives in my safe, I have an old ratty IJ for hunting.

Sorry, I can't shed any light on it, but that's an interesting find.  Too bad old guns can't talk!

The military procured lots of shotguns for aerial gunnery training. They would mount them in a cradle in a truck, take off driving with the instructor and trainnee in back and shoot targets on the move, learning how to lead etc etc. Imagine during the war due to shortages the Govt used any arms from anybody. Matter of fact I have about 15 paper shotgun shells from WW2 loaded with 6's.7.5 and 8 shot sizes. These case are stamped US on the bottom by the primer. You figure any fighting rounds would be double ought.
