What is your favorite wild meat to use for fox bait, listed from the best to the worst? I do alot of small game hunting and was just wondering if I could use some scraps and flanks for a fox bait. How and what do you add to the meat to use it? Thanks-John Bruning

I've gone to using ground mice only, as I seem to have the best luck with it around here on fox and coyote both. For a change up I use fish oil with the ground mice, and it works on both species equally well for me also.
I have a supply of caviar I rescued from a semi wreck several years ago, and it works well on fox, too.

So the Caviar in the hole and Vodka on the lip (s)? :)

I use Horse or Burro for yotes.

It is illegal in Michigan to use any part of a game animal to bait another animal.  That being said, I found certain fish species to work the best as a red fox attractor. Some fish species are completely ignored by both fox and coyote and others seem to bring them back day after day for a free lunch.  A fish may smell the same to us humans but obviously the canines detect something in certain species that we are unaware of. A major well known lure maker once wrote in his catalog that "a fish is a fish is a fish."  This idea may have seemed logical to this lure maker, but obviously he had never experimented with his ideas.  Trappers probably bought lures from him that worked great one season only to be marginal or worthless the next leaving the trapper perplexed and wondering why.  Ace

I trap and save mice all summer like jim and might use some fresh, some slightly tainted, some with castor,  i also like cat meat either bobcat or feral cat, like it best slightly tainted with either muskrat musk, castor, or asafoetida added, sometimes i add all three.  cya Corey

WackyCracker: yes, I use caviar for trapping bait. No pinkies up while placing it in the hole, either. I have about 7 cases of the stuff, all in nice, quart plastic containers with snap-on lids. Strongest and fishiest smelling stuff I've ever used, too.
I guess if I get hungry could always get the crackers out while spooning some into a dirthole, right???
want some???
