I am house sitting for a friend of mine who has 40 acres in the country. About 2:20 pm I went out to have a smoke and see if I could shoot some of the starlings that are all over the place. I went out with the.22 and look across the small paddock less than 100 yards from the house and see a coyote. I ran back inside and grabbed the .30-06 and go back out of the house. I figgured if he saw me he would run. I had to move closer to him to shoot him so I wouldn't be shooting over the horses. I got within about 50 yards and didn't even know I was there. I was watching thru the scope and figgured out why he didn't notice me. He was eating something big and dark. It was either one of the free range chickens or one of the cats. He was just finishing up eating it when i was getting ready to take the shot and he turned towards me and started watching me. I lined up the cross hairs on the middle of the chest and he turned and started trotting away. I hollard at him and he stopped to look at me and turned broadside. I put the crosshairs on his shoulder, squeezed off the round, and he dropped. When I went out to look at him I noticed he was about 45-50 pounds and looked like he had mange. He had some really thin and bald spots. Just thought I would share this.
