Howdy,
They work fine! The Model 14 is the earlier version of essentially the same rifle. The spiral grooves in the magazine tube are designed to keep pointed bullets away from the primers of the other cartridges in the tube. The model 141 was updated in the early 1930's. The differences are mostly cosmetic.
It has been said that the 14/141 has twice as many parts as are necessary. The only ammo currently available for the Remington woods rifles is .35 Remington. There are new .30 Remington brass and dies available to make .25, and .32 Remington, so be sure of how badly you want to shoot the gun before you latch onto any gun but a .35. The .25, .30. and .32 Rem are Remington's answer to the Winchester lever-gun cartridges, only rimless. All would be great offerings in a down-sized youth bolt-action rifle.
Now is a good time to shop for any gun made between the great wars. Ungrateful heirs are trading them in on new tactical arms like crazy!

Biggest differences are the 14 has a smaller forearm and a 22" barrel as opposed to the 24" barrel on the 141.
I have a 141 and love it. Mine has a scope mounted on it, so it's a little easier to shoot. They really are neat rifles.

I was surprised at the asking price of a M141 in 30 Remington at a shop.  It appeared to have been somebody favorite rifle that saw a lot of use but not beat up.  Blueing was about fifty percent.  Asking price was $400.  I would have thought that $250 would have been fair.  I must be out of date, or cheap, or maybe both. ;D

Siskiyou:
I looked at a 141 at a show in Indianapolis three weeks ago. It too was chambered in .30 Rem. The gun had Weaver bases on the receiver and the shell head was worn. The guy wanted $500 for it, and claimed that there were three different guys in the building selling factory ammo for it! I told him that if he went with me to show me the ammo, I'd give him $600, or he could take $200 now and I wouldn't call him a liar. He doesn't like me anymore. Quit talking.
Personally, I love the .30. Brass is available, data is nearly the same as .30-30, but pointed bullets can be used. The guy should have been straight.
Right now, I'm looking for a .25 Rem. I have a great mould and a place to shoot it.

Bitterroot:

Rumor has it that the last time there was that much .30 Remington ammunition together was back in 1946.  Three timber cruisers took a week off to hunt whitetail in Northern Maine.  It was their first chance to hunt since entering the army in 1941.  They were more than happy to trade their heavy M1 rifles for their sweet Remington pumps.

They were well equipped for their hunt, with a box of pre-war Remington softpoints each, good old American food from the grocery store, important on the list was the smoked bacon, the canned sardines, cheese, crackers, and the case of Old Forester. ;)

I saw a really nice 141 in 35 Remington at a gun shop for $395.  I almost bought it, but I need a gun with a scope.
The older I get...The better I was.
