Okay... so if I buy the PUMA should I look for the new Italian made ones?
I really like the way you can load the magazine tube from the front like a .22. I don't mind the loading gate, but...
Do all the PUMA's come with the dark stained wood? I don't really want to have to strip, sand and oil but will if I have to.
I think maybe I'll get the .357 first and then maybe a bigger one. I have no desire to duplicate my .45-70's... just maybe a .44 or .45.
I "should" be visiting the US on leave in July. Maybe I can buy one then.
I would imagine the new Italian ones are well made too, they have a good reputation.
I have a a Rossi 92 (Brazil) , but it's an EMF Hartford model, it only loads from the loading gate, and no all Rossi's do not come with dark stained wood, the EMF Hartford model has better looking wood, although still hardwood, it has nice grain and mine was oil finished. It's finish overall is nicer in my opinion and the EMF importer orders this with different specifications. Both Puma's and EMF Hartford models are from Brazil...except now Puma's are from Italy. I don't know how this affects EMF, have not read much on that.
Check out a EMF Hartford model from Brazil if you get the chance, and see what you think. They have carbines, and both long and short rifles, octagon barrels or round, there is a lot to choose from. .357 would be a nice caliber, mine is in .45 but would sure like to have the short rifle in .357.
