barrel length without sacrifice

Wanting to buy 204 for my encore needing to how short i can go before it starts hurting accuracy.THANKS

Rifle barrel length has little to do with accuracy with most cartridges, in fact sometimes shorter is more accurate.  It is true that muzzle pressures are higher in short barrels and the high speed gas can disrupt the bullet as it exits.....but my 14" .223 shoots as good as my 24" does.  Muzzle blast and velocity loss are probably more important.   Below 20" should be pretty loud.

Depending on how much faith you have in Fred Smith,  he did a test and posted his results on the Bullberry website with regard to the .204 and barrel length. As Lone Star mentioned the barrel length had nothing, necessarily to do with accuracy but it definitely changed velocity. I own three .204 Ruger Contenders and to be honest I wouldn't even cosider one much under the standard length of 23". Even at that the carbine is only a total of 37" long...how short do you want ?
