What conventional (non-sabot) slugs have you found to be most accurate with this gun ?

And mine likes the Winchester Super X.
Since I've cut three inches off the end of the barrel and thus changed the bore from a modified to a cylinder, I can "touch" three shots at 50 yards.

Rems and winns were about the same. That is all I shot so far. They both did well enough that I didn't feel the need to buy any more.

Brenneke's also shoot well but not so much better than the Sluggers for cost. The only ones that shot terrible in any of mine were the Super X and I have a ton of those from a Kmart going out of gun stuff sale. But may have to look at what thccray45 did my modified had three touching every time but that was at about 40yrd and with a 4footx4foot board they all touched the board some where

In the smoothbore guns I've owned except for one, the Remington slugger always shot the best. And seems you can get them anywhere, at a price reasonable. scout4<><

MSPRET may chime in on the Brennekke KO but I think he's away playing at camp. Are the KO's the hybred sabot type? The ones I have used were Rottweilers 2 3/4" they are more expensive than the sluggers and not that much better plus the slugs are very hard lead I've recovered some of them and they look like you could loadem up and shoot them again but the sluggers flatten out pretty good. I like the KO's, but then again I have only shot them out of 12ga. Your right thought Kurt, they are hard!
I was able to luck up on some a couple years back at Gander for around $1.75 a box
man I wish I would have bought more

I use my 20 gauge smooth bore as a bad weather deer gun. I've had the best luck with Remington Sluggers.

I tried the KO's in my 20ga.Out of a box of 5 I had 3 pierced primers.I've never had that happen with any other brand of slugs.

Thanks Guys;
Looks by consensus, I should try either Rem Sluggers of Win superX..maybe both.
Yes, I live in rifle country and have 30/30 & .308 to use...but a short shotgun with deer barrel & irons is so handy to keep in my truck at all times.

Thanks guys;
I picked up 15 of the 5/8 oz sluggers and some Federal Truball slugs yesterday, I'll get it sorted out by fall.

I'm in here late but will voice my opinion anyway. My all time favorite smoothbore slug (12 gauge, never tried the 20) were the old Brenneke 2 3/4" "MP" model slugs, I really wish they still made or imported them. The newer Brenneke of America "KO" slugs have been no where near as accurate for me. I still have a couple of boxes of the "MP's" and will keep them for special hunts. Lately I have been shooting 20 guage slug guns and my smoothbores seem to like either the cheap Remington Sluggers and the Winchesters second best. I try to stay with standard velocity 2 3/4" slugs which have always proven to give me the best accuracy and have always had enough power for the job. If I were hunting bear or big hogs I would go with some nice hard cast 12 gauge Dixie slugs or Dixie Tri-ball loads, depending on the distance and vegitation. I do have a nice 20 gauge USH for long range slug accuracy as well as a 20 gauge rifled (Tracker II) and smooth bore (Tracker I). I always seem to gravitate to a smoothbore for anything under 75 yards or so....<><....
