What's your favorite release?
« on: January 02, 2009, 05:17:56 PM »
I've used only a tru fire, and then switched to the winn free flight 2 years ago. I went to it because it gives me a little more draw length. I'm an average sized guy and like to get as much draw as possible. But now I'm wondering if I should try something different and look for a smoother trigger than what I have. The scott's seem like they have a better trigger, but I like the glove that comes with the winn. Is there a comprimise here? What do you all like to shoot with?

You already have the best... Tru Fire. Don't worry about adding draw length. I got a complete pass thru at 61 yards on a Bull Moose. Pearson Dagger 27 1/2" draw, 60 lbs, Easton 340s, 100 grain cut on contact 3 blade broadhead.

As for the release question, I'll always use Tru Fire. I like the auto close when I let up the trigger. Happy hunting!

I switched this year from a Free Flight to a Carter Quickee 1 on the recomendation of Bill Peligrino, an archery shop owner, competitor and hunter in Colorado Springs that likes a trigger release. Really improved my shooting. Easy to hook onto your loop or string. Precision trigger. Quality product. Not cheap but woth it. Well worth a look. If you want to listen to a great podcast on bowhunting go to www.bowcast.com. They did a show on releases.
Good Shooting!

I used a Free Flight for a few years then I put a D-Loop on my string and changed the Winn's head to work with the loop, I switched to a Carter three finger chocolate addition last year and love it.

I don't shoot my compound much anymore,(I prefer traditional)but I have two Trophy Hunters by Pro Release. They may not even make these anymore. They grip the string with two ball bearrings opposite each other. Very smooth.

Well, I use only trufire releases. I have one wrist release. It's a hurricane release. That's my hunting release! ;) I have 3 more; the 3-d 4 finger hunter, the 3-finger stalker, and my favorite the 3-finger magnum, which I don't think trufire makes anymore.  :( The 3 and 4 finger releases are thumb releases. I feel they are more accurate and more consistant, since you can't punch them like a wrist release, which can mess up accuracy. I like using thumb releases when I go to 3-D shoots.  ;D What I like about the magnum is is doesn't put any and I mean no torque on the string at all. It's my go to release for 3-D tournaments. ;D ;D :o
