Wildfires and California deer hunting
« on: July 12, 2008, 10:03:39 AM »
Currently wildfires are impacting a number of deer hunting zones in Northern California.  These fires have resulted in some closers of public land and roads.  These conditions are expected to continue.  I advised a young family member to hold off buying his license and tags until a week or so before the season opens.  The State has a no refund policy if your hunting zone is closed by fire.

Q:  Can I get a refund if the specific area where I hunt has been closed because of fire?
A:  No.  Refunds will not be issued for emergency area closures due to fire, weather or any other condition.

Siskiyou,  Saw you post about Calif. I traveled though that country several winters ago, and honestly was impressed :o It was NOT how I pictured the state. Very nice looking country. I visited with some locals about hunting. they said it used to be very good, but the mt. lions have taken a huge toll. How is the hunting your area. ;)

I live in southern California. We have a MAJOR fire problem & it closes all public land surounding the fire also. We were lucky this year but not the two years prior to this last year.  I see it being closed again in the near future. Im praying for a major fire to burn most of it off and open up some areas to actualy hunt but it will have a devostating affect on the mt communities.
At least I wont have to worry about weather I get to hunt, year after year after year. I'm tired of blanketed forest you cant find your way thru.
There is a good thing about fire closer down here close to the border... fewer people bother investing in the 1,500 deer tags & lic. fees just to hunt for a day, so it keeps the unwanted southerners out of our forest & gives the deer a chance to actualy get to a decent size before getting gunned down by 1,500 mexicans well, 1,499. LOL
I hunt alone cus I dont speak spanish & theres nobody else to hunt with.

anyway... My goal this year is to find private land to hunt so I can hunt all season un-interupted by the border bragade O, and fires too.
