A person would do very well if a K31 was your only big game rifle.

the swiss K31? It is simply the BEST made milsurp out there? What would changing to a 308 do? To me it is a 308 with the name 7.5x55.......RELOAD!!!!! bi the way is there any berdan primers out there???????????

Have to disagree ;D 6.5 Swede is the top of the list. 6.5x54r Dutch 1895 is number 2 and the Krag-Jorgensen of Norway would be 3rd .. And as was stated above, good luck finding ammo before too long. Better buy up as much brass as you can afford(or find)

You can also form .284 brass to 7.5 swiss. The base is a bit different but will work with the extractor. Search Highroad if you have doubts.

Privi and Wolf Gold (made by Privi) aren't too expensive as these things go and provide great brass to reload.

Had the K31 out to the range today and with reloads managed a 5 shot group at 100 yards measuring 1 3/8".  This is with iron sights too.  I think I've found the load I'm gonna stick with for this mil-surp!!  For these old eyes that's plenty good for me.

Why go to a 308 round? The 7,5mm swiss is a very good round.

S.S. Your right i love my 6,5 swede mauser just like you and Mikey here said i would many years ago.  I did buy up what GP11 ammo i could, but i have some new brass too.  I find the midsize bores sure do have a place, there my favorite too.  I like the 7mm mausers too.

Then we get into the 7,5mm & 30cals.  This is where the competition really heats up between the Finnish Mosins, the Russian Mosins and  the swiss k31's.  Don't let some of the russian mosins fool you just because they got passed up for sniper school.  Some of these old war horses can shoot good too.   There all good....... ::)

Guys,

Here's a set-up for a K31 y'all haven't mentioned yet:

It's an all matching walnut K31 with a S&K scout scope mount.  Scope is a Leupold 2.5X IER scope and that's a rubber bikini cover for it at top right.  The S&K mount just fits where the rear sight was (I can also put the rear sight back on and have it back all original anytime I want!).  Probably never will as that gun quickly became my favorite carry around deer and hog rifle!

PS: That's just a piece of masking tape on the scope with the trajectory written on it.

I love my old K-11 7.55. It is still a full length rifle with all matching numbers. Apparently it was made in 1915. I won't say how long ago I bought it, but I only paid $14.50 at a local discount store ;). It is a sweet shooter with factory ammo or moderate handholds.

I have most of the parts now and i'm ready to go and work on it.  But i was thinking with a few different k31's(6) I may pick the one with the worst accuracy to scope it.  I was thinkin of another with the swiss stmarie peep sites too.

The swiss k31 by itself with GP11 ammo the 3/4" groups @ 100yds seems to be the norm.

I just been too busy with the new place in the country.  I'm planting crops now.
