Bennies for vets & seniors...

  I recently bought a new mower from Lowe's bldg supply. Heeding the advice of a friend, I presented my Vet's Admin ID card..and recieved 10% off the top. Really help[ed to cover the 8% sales tax by NY "the vampire state".
   My brother in Tx says Home Depot will do the same, as well as many restaurants etc. Perhaps I have been overpaying in many places for a long time.
  Let's get together here and post any major establishments who give vets or seniors a break ..and how much. By doing this, we can help each other and give a thumbs up to those who give us a break.
  Note of caution: I don't think any allow double-dipping (e.g. Vets + seniors=20%)
 
    Let's list, I'll start;
 
 1) Pizza Hut..-10% for seniors
 2) Burger King ..Senior coffee..don't know %, but a substantial reduction.

It will eventually show up. Mine was on the last bank statement. Tell you the truth, I had forgotten all about getting one. But then I forget a lot of things now days. I call it CRS.

One of our local barbers used to give $1 off of a $8 haircut to veterans.  He was a vet and in poor health - often having to close shop for a few days due to illness.  I just never could even bring up a discount to him.  He needed that buck a lot more than I, and by golly he was there trying to EARN his money.  Poor guy was younger than I but struggling with blood pressure and heart problems.  He's gone now.

On the other hand, I found this list on MIlitary.com - not sure which are for vets, current military, or both.  Big list!

A Hardees at Radcliff, by Ft Knox, gives 50% off to soldiers and their families after 4 pm. Golden corral is a big supporter of our military. POWDERMAN.

  I have often thought the same thought about senior discounts, because they are actually discriminatory according to usual standards.age, race, gender etc.
  The veteran's discount is an "earned" discount (IMO). Particularly with those who served back in the 40s,50s & 60s..when we served for very substandard wages, while those not serving made much better bucks in most cases.

I think I "started" at $67.50/mo.?  I need to find one of those pay vouchers if I still have one.

Sportsman's Warehouse, Frontier Outfitters, and many other places here in Fairbanks gives a discount to military and military retirees.  Most of the eating establishments also give discounts as well. 

Every where we go, when we are ready to check out my wife asks if they give a military discount.  If they say yes, she flashes her retiree card.

When I started out in 1968, My take home was like $43.00 per pay day.  We got paid twice a month.  I had a stack of uncashed pay checks in my desk in my room.  Did not need the money.  Lived in the dorm and ate at the dinning hall.  On weekends walked to the movies, then to the club for a drink or two then back to the dorm.  Life was good, and quite.

Then I bought a car.  Never had enough money after that.

You had more self-control than I did.  Even with 3 qts. of Lucky Lager for $1 and a carton of smokes for $1.50, a few trips to the PX and to town, I was always broke.
