48 grains of 4895 with 150 grain bullets is quite the match load.

4895 is the powder used in most of the military issue WWII 30'06 cartridges.  The M1 gas port size and location, piston and springs  were all calibrated to the Govt load, and it is unwise to load heavier bullets, lighter bullets, or faster or slower powders than the 4895 powder and 150 gr bullet pressure and burn rate in the M1 Garand.

x-4 man:  we used to shoot 47.5 grains of IMR4895 behind a 180 grain .308 diameter bullet for long range accuracy from the Garand.  HTH.  Mikey.  BTW, one of my most favorite match loads for the M1 was the Salt Lake City 177 grain boattail fmj at 2650'/sec.  I used that combination with great success in a number of South American, ummm, 'match shoots'.  We also used that same load in RVN when we shot the Garands for sniper work.  Mikey.

x-4 man,

I use a NRA recommended load of 50 grains of IMR 4064 with a 150 grain Hornady (#3031) and a CCI 200 Primer.  It will shoot 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards.

Blessings!
