.45 LC shot shell
« on: June 29, 2009, 01:33:53 PM »
hi all, i'm looking at building up some .45 lc shotshells for snakes or the occasional close squirrel. this will be shot out of a revolver. i'm thinking either .410 shells or .444 marlins cut down to 1.5 inches, about 160-170 grains of shot with card below and above it. where i'm having trouble is what powder to run. i don't want the pressure going crazy but it can't take up very much space due to the large space the shot will take up. i was thinking a light load of unique would be the ideal, but i keep questioning myself. i'm not sure what powder they use in the old remington .410 but there was 14 grains of it. if i cut that back to 8.5 grains it's right at the edge of the brass leaving room for 160 grains of shot. the .410 runs at i think 12,000 cup, so that might be a good powder to run, unfortunatly i don't know what powder they put in them. any help would be very much appreciated.

Here is an article on shotshell reloading for the 44 mag.  It may give you something to start with.
