Howdy from the sunny Gulf coast of Texas!
« on: June 29, 2009, 08:02:45 AM »
My thanks to all that have contributed to this vast volume of knowledge/experience.

Early in the year I purchased a Buffalo Classic in 45-70. Yes, the front sight was too high and all my bullets went low. I ran the gambit of all the available scopes that I could get my hands on and none would hold a zero. My second Bushnell Banner (1.5 x 4.5 variable) is being returned tomorrow. Ultimately I located an old 4 power Weaver that is holding up just fine.

I’ll cut to the chase. I’ve “floated” the fore end, tightened the rear stock bolt (boy is THAT a sleeper!) and worked up some hand loads using Reloader7 and 300 gr. Remington bullets at ~ trapdoor level.

Thanks to ya’ll, I’m in the clover…cloverleaf groups at 100yds. that is!  ;D

The deer and feral hogs better watch out!!

Hot enough for you, I'm on the Texas Gulf coast too.  Where you at?  Glad to hear you got her shooting.  I reload for two 45/70's, one a Ruger 3 and the other a Marlin.  Have used a lot of Rel 7 and 3031.  A while back I found a good load with 2400.  All using 300 HP's.

Howdy STexhunter.

I'm from Conroe...do my shooting/reloading up at my brother's farm West of Huntsville. Yes sir, it IS hot!

I've seen some attractive loads using 2400. I'm strongly tempted to bring in a pound or so. :D

Where are you from, if I may ask?

I'm in Corpus Christi.  Live about 4 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.  Try some 2400 I think you'll like it.

You fellers near the coast don't get hot, you boil. Here near Abilene, it's been hot. Been lucky lead don't melt in the chamber before we can shoot it. I just got a Handi in 45-70. Got a Lee 450 grain mold and some Starline brass. I decided to see what I could do with powder I already had. Results look good with IMR 4198 in mid 20s grains. Have not tried for tight groups yet, but never really shoot for bullseye much. ;)

Here in West Louisiana it was a nice, balmy 109 Sunday afternoon, but we finally got some rain yesterday. It's been 52 days w/o rain. Deer are coming in the yard during the day to drink out the garden pond because the creeks are drying up.

Hot, let me tell you guys about hot, here in the piney woods where the pines block the wind its been getting so hot that in the shade the sweat runs in my eyes so bad I cant see! I'm in the southeast corner about 30 miles from the gulf and it is August hot here, and we are still in June.

Now you guys know why I only spend winters in Texas.

It's in the upper 40s lower 50s during the night, and in the 70s during the day here in North Pole, Alaska.

My brother lives in DeSoto, I visited once during the summer, that was enough.  Plus I lived in New Mexico, and Arizona for a few years, don't ever want to live like that again.

You guys can have Texas during the summer.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

It has been so hot here in San Angelo the ants are carrying rocks around so they can put them down & climb up on them to cool their feets off!

Howdy to all you new posters!  We have had some warm days, but only 77 when we headed home at 4:00 pm.  Nights are cooling of to high 50's, low 60's perfect sleeping weather.  We just got back from camping and fishing.  Got into the crappie and walleye pretty good, so had a great time.  DP
