With all the lesson's learned here,,
« on: June 23, 2009, 04:48:10 PM »
,,anybody doing well shooting traditional style off hand or bench compition this season?
I did ok in May at the local Mike Fink shoot,,it took 6 years but I finally got my name on that travelin trophy the 3rd time.
I'm headed out this weekend to another history fest and rendezvous'. It's taken a full season to break in that GM .54 slow twist barrel, 'bout 200 rounds,,I know,I know, I could do it faster by lapping or such, but I think there is value in shooting it that much,,I got that thing dialed in "sweet". You guy's wouldn't believe me if I showed ya the pictures. ;)
 Here's wishin luck to all,,aim small,,and may yer sights be true. ;) ;) :D ;D

I hung an old farm disc on a chain at 25 yds and let the kids shoot at it to hear it go "bong"    Well we tape a piece of paper to the back side and try to shoot through the 1.5 inch hole in the center of the disc.  I'm getting better.  I'm up to about 3 out of 4 with my flinter.   We may use this at a novelt shoot leter in the year.  We'll hang a bright clay bird on a post about twenty feet behind the disc, so the shooter will have to shoot through the hole and break the clay bird behind it.  Ought to test a persons ability to judge trajectory.  (Kind of like Odysseus shooting an arrow through the axe holes when he returned home)

gong's are fun. Good idea shooting through the hole. If ya wanna have a bit more fun with it, hang it so the hole is 44-45" off the ground,,most folks gotta squat a little to shoot through it then :D :D ;).
Took 2nd in the aggregate and 1st in the "meat shoot" this weekend.
