Does anyone make 9.3x74R barrels for the H&R Handi Rifle?

Any good gunsmith can, just depends on how deep your pockets are, a stub will cost $300+ the cost of donor stub(see FAQs) and blank, or an existing barrel can be rebored and rechambered for about the same money, use the search for
custom barrel
.

I like Handi rifles, but you can probably buy a Ruger No. 1 factory chambered for that round for what it would cost you to build a handi. They are nice handling rifles, and the one I shot was pretty accurate.

I would be interested in a Ruger 1 in 9.3x74r for the price of a building a 9.3x74r handi. I dont see any below $900 to my door. I have a 38x74r in the works right now.

You might be right about that, I guess the one I was thinking of was a used one that I saw for around $600. New ones do go for $850, or so around here discounted at the larger gun stores.

look up .35 whelen and 9.3x74r case drawings. i'm thinking a handi whelen barrel - or .30-'06 barrel - could be re-chambered/rebored for that dandy rimmed euro round. that'd be lots cheaper than stubbing ...

You could find a 38-55 barrel and have it rechambered to 38-72Win or if you want to go whole hog, then someone somewhere was talking about a 38-90Win and that the eruopeans made their 9.3 x 74R from that case. The 9.3 x 74R opened to take the .375" bullet would be right up there with the 375 H&H, I would think, but might be more than the Handi could stand for long. In the 38-72Win, you can take a 280gr bullet to 2400fps, in the Handi

isn't there a rimmed version of the h&h for double guns? boy, it'd be easier to find a variety of bullets, too, in .375.

Neat working cartridge for sure. A friend of mine (whose "allowance" is several decimals larger than mine) had a beautiful side by side 9.3X74R on a show table several months ago. I think it was a Merkle (sp?). I also ran across a really nice Husqvarna '98 chambered for 9.3X57 several years ago. Another neat cartridge. I pondered the 9.3X62 when I was daydreaming about what to do with a mix and match VZ24, but ultimately turned it over to a smith friend who had a new .35 Whelen barrel. (Still haven't gotten that project back from the shop).

Here's where it started, it shoots the Hornady 300gr SP just shy of 2500fps.
