Went out Saturday for some more ground hogs with a friend. He has really gotten the varmint/ predator bug. About an hour into it, he missed a GH that stuck his head out briefly. About 30 minutes later this fella came walking out of a tree line into a corn stubble field. He was only out brielfly and my buddy couldn't get a drop on him in time. He ducked back into the tree line and couldn't be seen.
I had no calls and after about 2 minutes, I decided to see what I could do with just my own voice and mouth. I started with lip squeaks but could not get the yote to come back out. I then gave my best impression of a dying rabbit (with no call). It sounded quite terrible. My friend was just in front of me with the rifle on the tripod and I could see him laughing quietly. Im sure I sounded pathetic!!
All laughter stopped abruptly though when the yote stepped back out of the tree line looking for the dying whatever. I lazed it at 153 yds and told my friend to adjust accordingly. I could hear him breathing so hard that I had to coach him to controll himself and calm down. We have all been through that though!! He pulled the trigger and the coyote went D.R.T.
High fives were in order and my friend was as happy as a giddy school girl that he just whacked his first coyote! After inspecting the dog, we discovered that he shot it right through the neck severing the artery. Excellent shot. Im going to do the skull for him. Needless to say, he is now completely hooked. Poor fella, he just doesn't know what he is getting himself into!!!
