u.S. Firearms SAA Colt Copy

I looked at a U.S. Firearms SAA with a 5 1/2" barrel in 45 Colt today at my favorite gun shop. I want a Colt SAA very bad but can't pay the $1300 for the nickel plated one he has right now. This U.S. looked alot like the Colt...same hammer set up and the same 4 clicks just like the Colt...the salesman was telling me that they are made in  the same plant as the colt...is that true??? And is it worth btween $700 and $750 brand new??? Thanks for the help...Robbie

I dont believe there made in the same plant. USFA has a new modern plant but there a very good gun, probably superior to a real colt in quality. As to price theres so many models its hard to say. I would think 750 is a fair price though new cowboys go for about that maybe a little less and there upper end models usually start at about 900 bucks and go up to about 1500 depending on options. Any way you look at it you wont go wrong buying one.

It isn't a cowboy...It looks identical to the blued Colt he has setting next to it...the grips seem a little thinner than the Colt's though...I might just have to go and put it on layaway today....

The USFA's make a nice SAA.  If it's blued and CCH I would think $750 is a good price.  The black stock grips with the "US" emblem are very thin with a heck of a plow handle flare to them,  just about any other type of grip you put on it will have more meat on them.  I actually still have the stock ones on mine, and have been putting off getting something else for a long time,  I'm getting used to them and like them now.  I friend of mine wrapped his hand around my USFA and asked it it was smaller grip frame or somethng.  Grips make a lot of difference on how they feel.   I payed around $960 out the door with tax a few years ago when I ordered a CCH/blued one from the factory, nothing fancy about it, no extra's, and it's never going to be for sale.  Best quality six gun I ever had as far as polish, fit and finish both inside and out.

I've had two of them.  They started out manufacturing under the Colt "Dome" - the original factory, to specific dimensions, etc of the original SAA's.
USFA's are hand fitted in final assembly, very well made and finished.  I just ordered two more.  I'd buy one over a real Colt.

The one you were looking at had a premium price for the nickel finish.  Current real SAA's start at $875 and go up with different finishes and grips, etc.

They are made in the old Colt factory on some of the equipment that was owned by Colt. When they first started out they had some parts that were made by Uberti in Italy. They are now all American built parts. They are also built off of the orignal Colt blueprints specifications. They are also built to tighter standards than a Colt. If you want the best built SAA then it's your choice. If you want to buy for a collector then buy Colt.
