New grips for S&W Mod. 66- need suggestions

I am thinking about changing the standard factory wooden grips on my S&W. Need something a little more comfortable and maybe improve my accuracy with it. Any suggestions?
Do I just bring it to a Cabelas and have them put on different ones to see what fits the best?

do ya have a round butt or square butt , the gun i mean ? Do you want wood , plastic or rubber ? Do you like finger grooves ? are your hands big , med or small ? Figure all that out or just go try some like you said . When you go and just look you might miss something . Go on line and check out whats offered so you will have some to compare . Also the store you go to might not have a complete selection .

when we had the m65 we had pachmayr rubber finger groove grips that was vary nice

I have large hands. The gun is square butt type and I think I would like rubber grips with finger grooves. but I need to try some different ones out to see what feels most comfortable.

If you're going to use a speed loader, you'll need grips that will accommodate those as well. The Hogue grips work well for me on my mdl 19 and 29.

I had a set of pachmayr grips on my J-fame model 60 that were very comfortable and provided excellent control.  The only draw back was the added bulk which made the little j-frame less concealable.

I have since gone to a set of wood laminate 'boot' grips which still offer better control than the original birds head grips but are not as bulky as the Pachmayrs.   They also look a lot classier than those black blocks of rubber.

I can't tell you a whole lot about them.   I picked them up at a gun show for $30. They came in a clear plastic bag marked "S&W j-frame, round butt" with no indication of who the maker was.   They were new and I believe made by a local wood smith. 

The style is called a "boot grip".  They have finger grooves and fill the area behind the trigger guard.  But unlike "combat" or "target" style grips they do not cover the back or bottom of the guns grip frame so they are more compact. 

I've seen similar ones on e-bay selling anywhere from $40 - $65.

I like Houge grips on revolvers, either rubber or fancy hardwood.

I put these on my 686 and 629. They came stock on the .460. Dual density rubber softens the recoil and they fit my large hands well.........and only $37.

  If Bluecow is thinking of the same Pachmayrs that I am, the "grippers", then I agree they are great service type grips. Gives the grip a nice thin profile. Also, they are not bad on price, durable, and pretty easy to find.

I used to use Hogue rubber and hardwood grips, and I still like the Hogues if using rubber, however, once I tried the Ahrends grips I was really sold on them. I especially like the Retro Target, but if you have big hands the square butts (with and w/o finger grooves) are great.
