Nambu cast bullets
« on: April 23, 2009, 04:35:49 AM »
Does anybody here shoot cast bullets in their Nambu? Any better than Huntington's FMJ? What weight, what mold, and weren't they originally loaded w/ RNL?

I shoot plated 102 grain bullets in my Nambu.  It's just a personal preference but plated bullets give most of the advantages of a cast lead bullet (lower chamber pressure and reduced engraving effort) while producing little or no leading.

Some people say plated bullets aren't as accurate as either cast lead or jacketed bullets, but I have not found this to be the case with my lone Nambu.

I believe the original pre-war 8mm Nambu cartridges were manufactured with RNL bullets.  I'm not sure whether or not the Japanese used jacketed bullets during WW2 or not.  I guess I should research that.

I shoot 102-105 grain cast with 3.2 grains of 231, very fun load to shoot. The T14 is such a fun pistol to shoot with a great trigger pull. I also make my cases from 357 Sig or 40 S&W, to get the base to the proper size I run it up into a 30-30 die. David

40's are what I've been using also, but I've been turning them on the lathe. Interesting about the .30-30 die. My gun thinks it needs about another .005 off just above the extractor groove, so I guess I'll humor it. That's .005 closer than it was!  Do you cast your own slugs, or know what mold will work?

RCBS makes a Nambu specific mould and I need to invest in one.
