Freedom Arms Ruger #1 in 22-454
« on: December 26, 2008, 08:37:23 AM »
I picked up one of Mr. Wayne Baker's Freedom Arms Ruger #1 in 22-454, and would like to know if any one has seen any brass for the rifle lying around anywhere? I have the set of dies that came with rifle that are also stamped Freedom Arms, so I just need the brass to see what she will do.

Here is a link to an article that Paco Kelly did in 2004. http://www.gunblast.com/Paco_22-454.htm

I have a few pictures of the rifle if anyone would like to see them.

I am a big No.1 fan... mine are in varmint calibers. It took me quite awhile to get ones in the ppc calibers and now they are my favorite ones in the bunch.
I think you just helped me out with what to do with the No.1 action I have been saving for a special project!

This brass is not going to be available at the local sporting goods store.  You are going to have to make your own.  You can expect have have 5-10 minutes, on average, per piece of brass, if you make a couple of hundred.  If you only make a few, expect close to half hour per each.   You need to get some 454 brass, get multiple dies of assorted calibers and start necking the brass down.  If you don't go in steps, expect to get buckles in your necks and shoulders.  You will have to do some annealing and neck turning also.  If you are not ready for a project of this magnitude, let me know so I can have first dibs on that gun..... :)

Good luck and enjoy that gun.  I am obviously envious......  ;)

SteveP thank you for the info. I do realize that brass can not be had at a sporting goods store. I was hoping that someone may have a few pieces of brass lying around. I would just like shoot it a couple times, and put it back in the safe. Stevejr454

Steve, have you tried Wayne to see if he has any brass? I don't have any or I would share.  It also looks like Freedom will begin shipping the .224-.327 guns late this month.  As I understand it they are waiting on dies and brass.

Carlislegr, I have not contacted him yet. I will give him a shout to see if he has any extra. P.S. I will drop you a line on your email address. Steve

Has anyone see 327 brass available?  I don't want ammo, I would like some brass to do some measuring and testing tho....

I don't know if you are still looking for brass but I ran in to Mr Baker Sr. at a gun show in Jackson Hole add he had a bag full of 22-454 for sell.  Might want to give  Tin cup sports a call and see if they still have it
