Does anyone use Blackpowder in your rifles?
« on: December 17, 2009, 07:05:46 AM »
Reading here seems like only subs are used.
Where are the blackpowder guy and gals and how do you like it?

I've used just about every powder known to man and haven't found anything better than good old black powder   ;D

Works for me   8)

My inlines eat it up pretty fast,  guess they like it too     :o

Like mentioned, I tried em all except the new fangle dangle stuff like J. shockey, Blackhorn etc.
And I must say that true blue black powder works best. These last couple years I really got into the good old sidelocks and seem to enjoy the smell and smoke shooting them more.
My TC Encore feels left out, good thing we have a generous deer bag limit ;)

Never done it, but have absolutely no problem doing so.  Easy cleanup, and can, in a pinch, be manufactured wtweawki.

I use it as I have found it to work better than any of the subs in my inline. I also use it in my sidelock and in my rollingblock 45-70!

I used it in my old TC Scout muzzleloader. Even though it was an inline, it used #11 caps and wouldn't shoot
anything reliably except good old black. Put down many whitetails with that rifle.
It has been replaced with a 209 inline now, shooting BH209. Don't miss having to clean that bugger though.

I use Schutzen 2F in my Yukon. Works fine!

Has anyone ever used Pyrodex in their Encores? I am thinking about giving it a try. I shot 90 Grains and a 245 Hornandy out of my Huntsmen and it Loved it.   It's all I use in my T/c .54 also   I have not noticed any difference in cleaning with the New Solvents they have for Black Powder.   Thanks.  Paul

Paul, I used pyrodex in all my sidelocks and my Encore. It worked so well that I switched to Pyrodex Select and gave away the rest of my T7. I did however do a comparison with Pyrodex pellets and T7 pellets and with my chrony my results were that 3 Pyrodex pellets were much faster in velocity.
Still though I prefer to pour my powder and use Goex FFG, FFFG and Pyrodex Select.

I use black powder in my encore just because that is all I ever used in my side locks. Works great shot my cow elk this year with my encore and bp with power belts. It was my first outing with my encore. I did buy some Shockeys gold after the season that I have not tried yet but looking forward to trying it though.

I use 3F GOEX blackpowder in all my muzzleloaders.  It goes off every time.  80 grains seems to work great in most of my rifles.

Goex for me. More accurate than anything else I've tried.
