Browning bedding
« on: October 19, 2003, 06:30:28 PM »
I have a Browning A-bolt Composite stalker in 338 win mag.  I guess the rifle is 10 years old, as I removed the barrel from the stock, I noticed the "bedding" (I use the term loosely) was sufficiently degraded I could pick it out with my fingernail!  Is this a common occurance, has anyone had similar experiences?  I am currently rebedding and hopefully the accuracy returns.

Unfortunately yes.  A friend bought a 300 Win in a featherweight(sounds bad but weighs the same as a standard sporter).  Accuracy was a bit worse than yu might expect from a smoothbore with slugs!  The 'bedding' and I am using that term lightly, was crumbling.  It appears they are using what amounts to hot glue as a bedding compound..  I wasn't sure how the A-bolts were bedded but since they are owned by the same sorporation I guess they've played follow the leader.  Bedding return the rifle to usable accuracy..  I'm sure it will solve your accuracy problems also..
