Question for loose powder shooters

Hello all,

I read alot on hear but dont post much. I am an old school huntsman owner..........bought it waaaaay back when they first cam out. My question is that in shooting loose powder, do you pour the powder down the barrell, pack the powder and then seat the bullet on the packed down powder? Or do you pour the powder down the barrell and then seat the bullet on the loose powder causing the powder to pack down with bullet? Or does it make a difference?

I am asking because I will soon be purchasing a MU plug from Nick and I am going to give this blackhorn powder a try, and I just dont mess much with loose powder. With the reviews about the plug on here, and for under 30 bucks..........man I just cant pass it up to try..........and say goodbye to primer carriers forever!

Just dump the powder, and push the bullet until it is firm against the powder.  I use the same load once I have developed it, so I mark my ramrod visibly, that way I know I'm "home" with the bullet seated and the right powder charge.  Prevents overcharging, and unseated bullets.  You will like the Blackhorn, even though its a might expensive.

Thanks for the loose powder loading tip. I need to get some loose powder tools..........measure, spout, ect......Yeah, the powder is not cheap, but then again not much is these days. I have a local store that has it on sale for about $27. Problem is my gun brand new cost $149. I put a new stock and fore end (just replaced the orginal wood) on it for about $60 bucks, my hubbard rod was about $35 bucks, powder is around $30 bucks, and bullets are about $20 bucks...........I am back to what I paid for my gun brand new. Not including the base (the gun shop installed for me when I purchased the gun) and my scope (standard leupold 3x9)...........A man cant get a break these days.

I got a ? about the Blackhorn powder and I am just gonna ask it here . Do I just use my regular black powder measure for this stuff or do I treat it like smokless and weigh it. Thank Kurt

It measures just like black powder and the other subs.

I only use loose powder, I work up the load I want and then mark the rod just like mechanic. Works well for me.
