out with the Holden and in with the Nissan

Got rid of the Barina and not got myself a 2001 Nissan Patrol ST GUII, i call her The Dud!

First trip to Springsure next month for the weekend the after that strait to the property to do some hunting for about four days. So hopefully ill get some chital then.

Nice wagon chappers , you'll notice the differance in fuel consumption for sure . Plenty of room and off road capable , whats the missus goin to say first time you scratch The Dud up

i think the room for us out weighs a few more dollars at the petrol station.

my plan is to treat the dud with care until my other half but the first dint in it, and with all the field work that goes along with her job... it should not take long then i will be off the hook. smart,

Ahhh, really.
Is that the direct injection or the common rail.
If it's the DI motor keep it serviced REALLY regularly and don't load it too much.
Don't ask how I know this.

The hand grenade series... yes there have been a lot of problems with the engine of this type (most have to do with constricted air flow to the combusting chamber) . I looked into it quite a lot and it seems like most major issues with the engine had been resolved  in mid 2001 (our patrol a late 2001 but.... i bet... i have just jinxed myself now).
Only problems we have experience is CD player failed, fixed with putting a cheap JVC player and also a GME two way in where the junky CD player was, replace headlamp bulb, and need to fix interior lights. So only electrical has gone and they have been documented problems in this model. 3L engine towing is out of the question. (too small)

But there is one distinct thing that attracted me the hand grenade series... the fear.
I got to say there is a lot of fear when it comes to any 3L patrol starting from 98 to 03 just no one likes them and this is really bad for resale...  ;) and why you can pick them up for cheap.
Before i did buy i was told some horror stories look on the net and the same. I was told only get a 04 and if you cant only get the 01, 02 or 03 with the clear rear lights... because they might be ok if your lucky. I started looking at only other 4x4 then i just talked to Nissan, three different dealers in QLD about this and i got the facts (three dealers just to make shore they had their story right).

But after typing all that i have must of jinxed myself and i will be complaining about in six months time

BTW that common rear lights story, one if the first things i did was....

And you cant fear a dud hand grenade :-\.

Neat looking unit chapper`s!
I have not seen one of those in the states, all I see are the Interra, Rodeo, and the Armada.
When I was in Perth( 1972-1974) I drove a sedan Holden, took awile to learn to drive on the "wrong side" of the road! ;D

Well, good on you for doing your homework.
I really hope it becomes a good ride.
It is rubbish for towing.
I know.
We bought a 2002 model from 4WD City in Milperra, Sydney, and it was a complete piece of steaming cow droppings, to keep it polite.
The guys at 4WD City are charlatans & liars and they can take me on if they see this.
They make the usual reptilian species of used car salesmen look like Mother Theresa.
NEVER buy a car from there.
It needed 3 new brake rotors, a new fan belt, idler pulley and idler bearing, replacement 'box and transfer case and finally the turbo died.
We got it going and sold it but just before I finally offloaded it I noticed the springs under the seats were all rusted and the fan/aircon always smelled musty.
It must've gone up to its bonnet in a creek some time.
I reckon it was a redeemable write off and they got it on the road for as little as possible, wound back the clock to under 100,000kms and sold it that way.
We lost about 10 grand on that lemon.
I really hope and pray your GU 3.0 works for you.
Personally the only Patrol I'd go near would be the 4.2l or the Petrol.
