Browning BAR styling

   I hope my question does not offend anyone, so here goes :

I have read a lot of criticism about the looks of the BAR rifle.  Many people hate it.  I choose to remain neutral.   But word on the street is that the original designers got their inspiration for the lines of the BAR upon examination of a  2 x 4 laying in a nearby construction zone.  Could this in fact be true ?

 I like the looks of the BAR. I have 2 of the more 'original' looks not the new euro-style or whatever it is. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder with guns as well as other things. I will say function,dependability & halfway decent accuracy rank high on my list when it comes to firearms.

I like the way the long trac and short trac's look, plus their light for an autoloader. What do the old Safari BAR's weigh, nine pounds or more?

It truely is an individual choice. I prefer the squared straight look of the BAR MkI & the BAR MkII Safari. I own a MkI Type2. The Safari model in standard calibres lists at 7lbs 3oz, so is not too heavy and only a few ounces heavier then the Marlin 336C lever action rifle.

The rifle that was inspired by the 2X4 was the Browning BBR.

My view on the BAR is that it's an awesome looking Rifle. I like the weight of it too.

John Browning designed this older auto-loader over 100 years ago.  It's built mighty sturdy but doesn't remind me of framing lumber at all.
